  • Is pewter older than silverware?
    Yes — pewter has been around for over 2,000 years. The Romans were using it at their tables long before knives and forks were common.
  • Will a pewter tankard keep beer colder?
    It will! Pewter conducts temperature well, so a chilled tankard makes a pint feel extra refreshing.
  • Does pewter contain lead?
    Modern pewter is completely lead-free and safe for food and drink.
  • Does pewter tarnish?
    Pewter doesn’t tarnish like silver — it may gently darken over time, giving a soft patina. A light polish keeps it bright.
  • What happens if I drop pewter?
    It’s softer than steel, so it can dent, but it’s unlikely to shatter.
  • What’s the strangest thing made from pewter?
    Historically, everything from bed frames to chandeliers. These days, some souvenir designs push the limits of taste!
  • Why do pirates in films drink from pewter mugs?
    Hollywood loves the look — real ships mostly used pewter for plates and serving jugs.
  • Is pewter heavier than it looks?
    Yes — it has a lovely solid feel without being too heavy.
  • Can I see a preview of my engraving before you do it?

    We don’t currently offer automated previews on the website, but if you’d like to see a layout proof, please use the tick option under Engraving before placing your order and we’ll send you a proofing.

  • What fonts do you offer for engraving?
    We have a carefully chosen selection of clear, attractive fonts suitable for pewter and glass engraving. You can see the available options on each product’s page.
  • Can you engrave in another language?
    Yes — we offer a proof service if you tick the “Request a Proof” box when adding engraving to your order. We don’t have an automated preview on the website, but with the proof service we’ll send you a layout for approval before we begin engraving.
  • Is there a limit to the number of characters I can have engraved?
    It depends on the product. For glass items, space is more limited, but for pewter items it’s mostly a matter of using common sense so the engraving looks balanced and attractive. We’ll always contact you if we think your text needs adjusting to fit well.
  • Can you engrave items I didn’t buy from you?
    Sorry — we only engrave items purchased directly from Pewter World so we can guarantee the quality of the result.
  • How long does engraving take?
    Engraving usually adds 1–2 working days to your order, but it can be faster if you have an urgent deadline — just let us know.
  • Can I have my item engraved?
    Yes, most of our products can be engraved. Engraving options are shown on the product page, along with a box's to enter your text.
  • Can you engrave logos or images?
    Yes, we can engrave simple logos or images. Please contact us with your design for a quotation and to confirm suitability.
  • Is engraving permanent?
    Yes, engraving is permanent and will not fade under normal use.
  • Do you include receipts with the package?
    No — we never include paper invoices or receipts in the parcel, making it ideal for sending gifts directly to the recipient. Your order confirmation and receipt are emailed to you instead.
  • Can I send an order directly to someone else?
    Yes — simply enter their delivery address at checkout.
  • If an item is out of stock, can I pre-order it?
    In many cases, yes. Please contact us and we’ll let you know when it’s expected back in stock and if we can reserve one for you.
  • Do you make custom designs?
    We don’t manufacture items ourselves, but we work closely with trusted UK pewterers and engravers. If you have a special request, we may be able to source or adapt an existing product for you.
  • Can you source a product that’s not on your website?
    We’re happy to try — if you’re looking for a specific pewter or glass item, let us know and we’ll see if we can get it for you.
  • Do you offer discounts for large or corporate orders?
    Yes — we can often provide quotes for bulk orders, corporate gifts, or awards, including engraved company logos.
  • Is pewter safe for food and drink?
    Yes — all our pewter is lead-free and perfectly safe for food and drink use.
  • Does pewter tarnish over time?
    Pewter does not tarnish like silver. Over time it may develop a soft, natural patina that many people find attractive, but it won’t rust or corrode.
  • How should I care for my pewter?
    Wash pewter in warm, soapy water, rinse well, and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid dishwashers, abrasive pads, or harsh cleaners.
  • How should I store my pewter items when not in use?
    Keep them in a dry place, ideally in their presentation box or wrapped in a soft cloth to prevent scratches.
  • Are all your products pewter?
    Our main collection is made from high-quality lead-free pewter, crafted to last a lifetime. We also offer a small selection of quality glass barware items, chosen to complement our pewter pieces.
  • Are your glass products dishwasher safe?
    We recommend handwashing all glassware to preserve the clarity and quality of engraving.
  • Can pewter items be polished?
    Yes, you can use a specialist pewter polish to restore shine if desired.
  • How do I place an order?
    Simply browse our collection, choose your item, select any personalisation options (such as engraving), and add it to your basket. When you’re ready, head to checkout and follow the secure payment process.
  • Can I order without creating an account?
    Yes — you can check out as a guest if you prefer. Creating an account just makes it easier to track orders and store your details for next time.
  • Can I change my order once it’s placed?
    If you contact us quickly, we’ll do our best to make changes. Once engraving has begun or your order has been dispatched, changes aren’t always possible.
  • Can I change the delivery address after placing my order?
    If your order hasn’t yet been dispatched, yes — just get in touch as soon as possible so we can update it.
  • Do prices include VAT?
    Yes — all prices shown on our website include VAT where applicable.
  • I tried to check out with the item in my shopping cart but I get no where or I am getting error message
    I am sorry this is happening to you. If you find you are unable to sign up or checkout please get in contact with us and we can help you to get though the process
  • When placing an order I get an error message that there has been an authorization failure. What went wrong?

    Please double check the credit card number and expiration date and other information on your card,as any incorrect details may decline your card from working.Or try using another card if you are able to as due to security some cards may fail.. If all else fails please Contact Us and we can arrange an alternative payment method

  • Do you give our Details Away:
    No. We never sell your personal data. We only share what’s needed with trusted providers (e.g. payment processors and couriers) to process your order, and we follow UK GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018.
  • How will I know when my order has been dispatched?
    You’ll receive a dispatch confirmation email with tracking information (if applicable).
  • Can I cancel my order?
    If your order has not been engraved or dispatched, it can usually be cancelled. Please contact us immediately.
  • How much does shipping cost?
    Delivery within the UK is free on orders over £100. For orders under £100, our standard delivery charges apply, which you’ll see at checkout.
  • How long will delivery take?
    Most orders are dispatched within 1–2 working days. Engraved items may take a little longer. Standard UK delivery is usually 2–3 working days after dispatch.
  • Can I choose next-day delivery?
    Yes for UK customers only — if you need an item urgently, please contact us before ordering so we can confirm stock and arrange express delivery.
  • Do you deliver outside the UK?
    Yes — international delivery is available to many countries. Please contact us for a postage quote as prices vary from country to Country .
  • Can you deliver to PO Boxes or BFPO addresses?
    We do not deliver to PO Boxes. We do however send parcels to our Blue Light holder
  • What happens if I’m not home when my order arrives?
    The courier will leave a calling card or email/text you with instructions for re-delivery or collection from a local depot. Please keep an eye out for email updates from us
  • Can I track my order?
    Yes. You’ll receive a dispatch email with tracking details once your order is on its way.
  • Do you offer express delivery?
    Yes, we offer an express delivery option within the UK. Details and costs will be shown at checkout
  • What happens if my order arrives damaged?
    Please contact us within 48 hours with photos of the damage so we can arrange a replacement or refund. Please send us a picture of the damage first
  • What payment methods do you accept?
    We accept major credit and debit cards, PayPal, and other secure payment methods shown at checkout.
  • Is it safe to order from Pewter World?
    Absolutely — our website uses secure encryption to protect your personal details.
  • Can you see our Card Details:

    No..  We use external trusted payment methods like Stripe, PayPal & Nochex. With our on site payment method we do not see your details so you can shop with confidence on our site.

    Pewter World's website is fully SSL enabled to ensure your security and safety while shopping with us.

  • Do you accept bank transfers?
    Yes, we can accept bank transfers by prior arrangement. Please contact us for details.
  • Can I pay over the phone?
    No — unfortunately we can’t take payments over the phone. This is because we don’t store or handle card details directly. All payments are processed securely through our online checkout, which uses encrypted connections to keep your information safe. This protects you and us from the risks of card fraud and ensures we comply with payment security regulations. Please choose the Pay By Invoice where you can pay at your leisure
  • What is your returns policy?
    If you’re not completely satisfied, you can return non-personalised items within 14 days for a refund or exchange. Personalised or engraved items can only be returned if faulty.
  • Do you cover return postage costs?
    If the item is faulty or we’ve made a mistake, yes — otherwise return postage is the customer’s responsibility.
  • How long will my refund take?
    Once we’ve received and checked the item, refunds are usually processed within 3–10 working days.
  • Can I exchange my order for a different product?
    Yes — provided it hasn't been dispatched yet
  • Can I return my item?
    Yes, you can return non-personalised items within 30 days for a refund or exchange, provided they are in unused condition and in their original packaging.
  • Can I return engraved or personalised items?
    Unfortunately, personalised items cannot be returned unless they are faulty or damaged.
  • Who pays for return postage?
    Return postage costs are the responsibility of the customer unless the item is faulty or incorrect.
  • Are all items in stock?
    We aim to keep our website updated with current stock levels. If an item is out of stock, it will be clearly marked. In the unlikely event you purchase an item that has just gone out of stock, we’ll contact you straight away and offer you a choice of either a full refund or an alternative item of similar style and value that is currently in stock.
  • Can I pre-order an out-of-stock item?
    Yes, for certain products we can take pre-orders. Please contact us for more details.
  • Do you offer bulk discounts?
    Yes, we can offer discounts on larger orders. Please contact us with your requirements.
